New Grids of ATLAS9 Model Atmospheres
New opacity distribution functions (ODFs) for several metallicities have been computed. The main improvements upon previous ODFs computed by Kurucz (1990) are: (1) the replacement of the solar abundances from Anders & Grevesse (1989) with those from Grevesse & Sauval (1998); (2) the replacement of the TiO lines provided by Kurucz (1993) with the TiO lines from Schwenke (1998), as distributed by...
متن کاملA critical appraisal of ATLAS9 and NextGen 5 model atmospheres
The fitting atmosphere parameters (Teff , g, and [Fe/H]) for over 300 stars in the Gunn & Striker (1983) and Jacoby et al. (1984) catalogs have been obtained relying on the Kurucz (1992) ATLAS9 and Hauschildt et al. (1999) NextGen5 synthesis models. The output results are compared, and a critical appraisal of both theoretical codes is performed.
متن کاملNotes on the convection in the ATLAS9 model atmospheres
The mixing-length theory for the convection, as it is used in the ATLAS9 code (Kurucz, 1993a), is summarized and discussed. We investigated the effect of the modification called “approximate overshooting” on the model structure of the Sun and of starswithTeff included between 4000Kand 8500K, log g included between 2.5 and 4.5, and metallicities [M/H]=0.0 and [M/H]=−3.0.We found that the Kurucz ...
متن کاملSynthetic spectra of simulated terrestrial atmospheres containing possible biomarker gases.
NASA's proposed Terrestrial Planet Finder, a space-based interferometer, will eventually allow spectroscopic analyses of the atmospheres of extrasolar planets. Such analyses would provide information about the existence of life on these planets. One strategy in the search for life is to look for evidence of O3 (and hence O2) in a planet's atmosphere; another is to look for gases that might be p...
متن کاملA grid of synthetic ionizing spectra for very hot compact stars from NLTE model atmospheres
The precise analysis of properties of planetary nebulae is strongly dependent on good models for the stellar ionizing spectrum. Observations in the UV – X-ray wavelength range as well as NLTE model atmosphere calculations of spectra of their exciting stars have shown that neither blackbody fluxes nor “standard” NLTE atmosphere models which are composed out of hydrogen and helium only are good a...
